For this crawl space restoration project, we began by performing a full fiberglass insulation removal, ensuring that all old, deteriorated, and moisture-affected insulation was completely cleared out. This step is critical to eliminating potential mold growth and improving the overall air quality in the home.
Next, we addressed the structural integrity of the crawl space by replacing 66 feet of damaged sill plate with new, pressure-treated material, restoring the essential support along the perimeter of the structure. In addition, we installed 21 sister joists to reinforce weakened floor joists, providing extra stability and load-bearing capacity. To further strengthen the framework, we installed 24 box header caps, which help support the ends of the joists and maintain proper alignment.
To protect the crawl space from future moisture issues, we installed 1,100 square feet of a 6-mil vapor barrier across the entire ground surface. This vapor barrier helps reduce humidity, prevents ground moisture from entering the crawl space, and creates a cleaner, healthier environment. We also applied Timbor spray treatment to all exposed wood components, providing long-term protection against wood-destroying insects, mold, and fungal decay.
